Agent Realms

Agent Realms are groupings of endpoints that are usually separated by geographical or jurisdictional boundaries. (For example, Boston Office and Los Angeles Offices.)

Agent Realms provide:

  • The ability to interact with ITM endpoints with lower latency and higher bandwidth
  • The ability to customize agent policies to meet legal requirements
  • The ability to customize the retention of endpoint data

Agent Realms define which geographical region the endpoint reports to, what features are enabled and the default setting the Proofpoint ITM Agent uses when installed.

An endpoint can only belong to a single Agent Realm at a time and cannot be moved between Agent Realms without reinstalling Proofpoint ITM Agent.

You must set up at least one Agent Realm before you can deploy the agent.

Agent Realms never get deleted, they remain as deactivated.

An Agent Realm is composed of:

  • Endpoints (Agents) that are attached to the Realm

  • Agent Policies that are assigned to the Realm. A Realm must be assigned at least one Agent Policy. By default, a default account policy is assigned to a Realm. You can add and assign other recording policies to a Realm and a Realm can have more than one Agent Policy. (See Agent Policies.)

Realms will appear in agent policies, even if they are disabled

  • Retention period for all collected data

The Realm configuration is stored in the installation configuration file. (See Installation Configuration File.)

You manage Realms from the Administration app in the Proofpoint Information and Cloud Security Platform, in the Agent Realms view. (See Agent Realms View.)
