Mac Web File Upload Prevention
Mac Web File Upload prevention enables advanced protection by analyzing file content prior to uploading. For the most seamless and consistent user experience, this capability is optimized when the agent is assisted by Proofpoint ZenWeb browser extension on supported browsers. In environments where ZenWeb is not deployed on a supported browser, users may experience freezing of the browser window and mouse pointer movement to the top of the screen. This happens when assessing prevention rules that include analyzing the content of the uploaded files. Organizations can avoid disruptions by standardizing supported browsers and deploying ZenWeb accordingly.
Proofpoint ZenWeb can be missing on a browser for the following reasons:
-
ZenWeb was not deployed to this browser
-
Agent does not support ZenWeb assisted upload prevention (see table below)
Review the guidelines for handling incognito permissions to ensure ZenWeb coverage. ZenWeb incognito/InPrivate coverage can only be enforced on Edge to date.
The table describes agent and browsers feature compatibility
| Mac agent version | ZenWeb supported browsers | ZenWeb unsupported browsers |
|---|---|---|
| 4.2 and above | Chrome Edge Firefox | Safari |
| 5.1 and above | Chrome Edge Firefox Safari | - |
Deployment options
-
Option 1: Agent assisted by ZenWeb only (recommended)
IT Administrators should use MDM to limit allowed browsers to the ones that Proofpoint ZenWeb supports and deploy ZenWeb on allowed browsers. This will ensure that upload prevention is always assisted by ZenWeb and users avoid the non-optimal experience.
-
Option 2: Agent assisted by ZenWeb & agent-only
If Option 1 is not possible (e.g. can’t disable Safai), then ZenWeb should be deployed to all supported browsers, and the non-optimal user experience will occur on the other agent-only supported browsers.
